Ayushman Bharat Yojana, also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), is one of the largest government health insurance schemes in India. It provides health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.
The scheme aims to support more than 10 crore poor and vulnerable families, which means around 50 crore beneficiaries across India.
Under this program, the government has also merged earlier health insurance schemes such as:
- Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY)
- Senior Citizen Health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS)
